Future of this wiki
Given the eminent closure of the current international Megaten servers; I wanted to see what people thought about the future of this wiki. A note; I will continue to host this wiki for a long time yet. International Megaten might eventually be revived by another publisher. However, the only version of Megaten in the near future will be the Japanese version.
Should this wiki stay as it is now - centered around the international version, or should it become centered around the Japanese version? -Sesshou (talk) 18:23, 15 February 2014 (EST)
- I've been waiting for any word about if it will stay before adding all/most of the new demons the Japanese have that we don't have, I feel like adding them will at least help a lot and centering it around the Japanese version seems to be the best choice right now IMO. Looking forward to hearing other people opinions on this. --Lord inioch (talk) 18:46, 15 February 2014 (EST)
Template to mark outdated item pages
Is there a template to mark outdated item pages with? For example Cross Sword - AnnanFay (talk) 20:41, 13 August 2013 (EDT)
Image hosting / uploads?
Should we be uploading all images to the wiki? This page allows it. Here's a list of currently uploaded files/.
If not can we have a consensus on which image host to use. Quite a few of the images are now dead because they were uploaded to nerfjax.com which shut down. -AnnanFay (talk) 12:00, 9 January 2014 (EST)
- Unless you want to re-upload all the images singularly or do you want a mix of this and that from upload? Or do you want some of the pages such as consumable, vouchers and others could start be filled with wiki uploads? I'm already aware of wiki's upload but if it had mass upload I would of used it by now.--Infernity (talk) 12:50, 9 January 2014 (EST)
- Good point. The owner can easily upload multiple files, and has in the past. For us to be able he would need to install one of the multi-upload extensions. Is the Admin still around? I've not seen any edits by him, though I myself haven't been around much.
- I don't have a problem with using imgur, as long as everyone uses imgur. It seems to be the current most popular image host.
- Do you know if it keeps images forever or automatically delete stuff? I doubt we will have bandwidth problems, lol.
- If we use imgur we could create an imagine-wiki account and share access with wiki admins/mods/people who ask. Would this have any advantage? -AnnanFay (talk) 10:04, 11 January 2014 (EST)
- I don't log in the game often to know if the Admin is in-game nor have I seen him in Skype (don't know his address as well). Even if he is online, he doesn't stay much because he already maxed 2 Lv.97 characters and waiting for new content. As for the images, the images last for 6 month as long it get at least 1 view. Making the account would cost money for premium, and standard can only hold 255 until a new image is uploaded, the old one will be deleted. I currently have 5,012 images from SMT file and not nearly finish. We have the resources for everyone.
- Lastly, all images will continue from imgur or new images should be uploaded via wiki? All wiki uploads goes to dropboxusercontent and if you don't renew your account, would all the images be deleted? I always feared that one day the account would expire and it would be nerfjax 2.0.
- What I like about nerfjax and wiki is it keeps the image file name. Let say I wanted to add Tidy Glasses M to wiki, I just paste the link "http:XXXX/icon_A32_0185a" and for female, I would paste the same link and change 1 number instead of tab hopping, copy, and paste. --Infernity (talk) 11:36, 11 January 2014 (EST)
- I am sometimes around :). The images stored on wiki are safe - the dropbox account is a mirror of the images kept on my webserver. If I lose this dropbox account, I can immediately switch over to using them from my webserver directly. I will look into getting the multi-upload extension in place (probably over the next couple of days). --Sesshou (talk) 18:57, 12 January 2014 (EST)
- I have moved away from using dropbox for images (to a private CDN). This means that images uploaded to the wiki now come up under cache.sesshou. com. My hacky dropbox stuff was preventing me from doing the above; now that this is gone multi-upload is now available. --Sesshou (talk) 19:19, 5 March 2014 (EST)

Did I miss anything important? --Fizzlybub (talk) 15:27, 5 March 2014 (EST)
- I just looked through it fast and it looks good to me. I've been thinking a lot of the best way to do Mitama pages on demons but so far I haven't come up with anything good that's easy to read and understand too. If anyone comes up with a good solution I can more or less do pages on all the demons, would just take a while but would be fun, I love doing demon pages :) --Lord inioch (talk) 17:43, 5 March 2014 (EST)
Dead image links
The MTWiki collection of demon images were recently taken off dropbox because dropbox has changed it's terms of use. I have uploaded the MTWiki images to the wiki cache and have fixed the majority of demon pages from the compendium to use the cache instead of dropbox.
Given we have had mass loss of images before, I am considering changing how images are handled on the wiki. I am thinking of turning off external images. That means the wiki will only show images that have been uploaded directly to the wiki. Any thoughts or opinions on this?
All current external images/links:-
--Sesshou (talk) 09:16, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
I don't have any issues with this, we've been having far too many issues with missing images (like the vouchers and various item/equipment pages.) --Fizzlybub (talk) 12:41, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
Regarding Demon images
Do you guys think it would be alright if I changed all the current demon's pictures to animated gifs of them staying idle? I thought it'd be a cool addition, here are two examples you can preview in the respective demons pages:
--Suirai (talk) 21:26, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
Well personally I think it's a great idea, it would liven up the pages and get rid of dead links `3` --Quon (talk) 22:02, 22 August 2015 (EDT)
It's a cool idea! The only downside is the size, 500KB - 1.2MB each for the animated versions compared to 30KB-70KB each for a random selection of non-animated version. There are some more recent web video formats based on HTML5 (such as GFY gif) that would make them a good size - I'll take a look to see if the wiki software supports them. --Sesshou (talk) 15:29, 24 August 2015 (EDT)
An example of a GFY gif is:
- https://gfycat.com/ShortWeakArkshell (the name is randomly generated)
This is ~150KB and there are some extensions that allow these things to be embedded into the wiki. If this looks reasonable, I can spend some time this Saturday to modify the wiki configuration to do this. --Sesshou (talk) 15:46, 24 August 2015 (EDT)
Well my idea was to put tabs on the top of the demon picture box, one for animated and another for non-animated render, much like how there are multiple tabs showing varying appearances in other games for this character: http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Big_Boss
We can't really get rid of the stills completely, I'd like to have it alongside the gifs in separate tabs, is this possible for our wiki? --Suirai (talk) 17:58, 24 August 2015 (EDT)
That is possible, the metalgear site does it through javascript and we can do the same. The script they use is slightly wasteful though, it downloads all the images on page load and simply just switches between them using div's. If we used this script as it is, the animation would still be downloaded even if a user didn't look at it. There will likely be a better version somewhere on the web. --Sesshou (talk) 14:15, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
Perhaps TabView instead of Tabber? The only modifications to the tabber script that I was able to find are related to styling it. http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Help:Tab_view --Fizzlybub (talk) 18:32, 25 August 2015 (EDT)
